The event has been organised by local charity LOROS, partnering with leading producer of public art events Wild in Art to bring an unforgettable free trail to the city and raise all-important funds for the charity. Rocket Round Leicester will see 10-weeks of incredible events and adventure as 40 giant Rocket sculptures weave a trail of discovery across the city. Trail-goers will navigate Leicester’s streets and open spaces from 19th July in a mission to see the technicolour sculptures, designed by local and national artists.

Alongside exploring the city like never before, visitors can experience 10 different themed weeks in the heart of Leicester; from music, space, challenge and wellness to name a few. With each unique week, there are space-tastic events and activities for the whole family to enjoy this summer holidays.

Movie lovers are in for a treat as from 7th – 8th August they can sit back and enjoy WALL-E, Apollo 13, The Martian and Muppets from Space on the big screen. Escape to the magical world of cinema in Vijay Patel Square at De Montfort University as part of Space Week.

Music Week is celebrated from 9th – 15th August and trail-goers can take in the sculptures to a soundtrack as local musicians showcase their talents in a busking trail. LOROS’ highly anticipated 10km Twilight Walk is back for its triumphant 11th year with an out-of-this-world theme to conclude the week of 14th August.

With 100km between Earth and space, LOROS are challenging the public to get sponsored to take on the trail in the Space Race Challenge. Participants can complete the 100km target their own way and in their own time; cycle it in a day or walk it throughout summer, alone or as a group – the choice is yours!

The adventure doesn’t stop there as thrill-seekers can leap for LOROS and get their heart racing with a 160-foot Bungee crane jump on 18th September. Those who want to test their resilience can walk barefoot on hot coals at a Firewalk on 15th September.

Following 10-weeks of Rocket Round Leicester exploration, there will be one final time to see the sculptures together at the Farewell Weekend from 9th – 10th October. Sponsored by University of Leicester, all 40 giant Rocket sculptures and miniature Junior Jets, designed by local schools, will congregate at the National Space Centre for a weekend of family fun.

The grand-finale will see the giant Rocket sculptures auctioned off on 13th October to raise money for LOROS Hospice.

Laura Betts, Fundraising Manager at LOROS Hospice says, “We’re thrilled to bring Rocket Round Leicester to the city and inject colour and conversation back to the streets. The trail will bring the local community together after a long time apart and raise all-important funds for LOROS Hospice too.
