BID Leicester is committed to making Leicester a safer place to live, work, study and do business. As part of our commitment, we have a range of services aimed at making the city centre safer, which we’re calling our Safer Leicester Service.
Night time first aid service
BID Leicester funds a night time first aid service in partnership with St. John Ambulance to keep the public safe and save lives.

Street Ambassador Service
Working closely with the police, City Wardens, and outreach teams, our friendly team of Street Ambassadors report and monitor on street issues and anti-social behaviour.

Our uniformed team of Street Ambassadors patrol the BID area, giving reassurance and information to businesses and visitors alike. Launched in September 2018, the service has proven invaluable to businesses in the city centre, resolving street issues such as fly-tipping and anti-social behaviour. City Watch Radios
Our Street Ambassador team are radio holders as part of the City Watch scheme, which monitors business crime.

The City Watch digital radio scheme allows shops and pubs to speak to their internal teams or alternatively to other like minded security conscious businesses to help combat business crime and shop theft, deterring would be shoplifters and sharing intelligence. Best Bar None
A nationally recognised accreditation scheme, highlighting the best of Leicester’s hospitality, promoting safe socialising and responsible management.
47 licenced premises have now received accreditation, and we’ll be reopening applications later in 2024.

In partnership with Leicestershire Police, Leicester City Council Licensing and Leicester City Watch, we launched the Best Bar None scheme in 2023.
The Best Bar None scheme is dedicated to recognising and celebrating establishments that go above and beyond in ensuring a safe, enjoyable, and inclusive environment for all patrons. Accredited venues have demonstrated their commitment to excellence and responsible management, having undergone a thorough assessment process conducted by trained assessors.
In 2024 we will be reopening the process and encouraging licenced venues who haven’t already to apply. Learn more here.
Purple Flag
Purple Flag status recognises Leicester as a vibrant destination for dining, entertainment, and culture at night, while promoting the safety and wellbeing of visitors and local residents.

Since 2020, BID Leicester has led the city through the annual process of achieving and maintaining Purple Flag accreditation, showcasing the quality of the city’s evening economy offer and the partnership working that is in place to support safety at night. Find out more here.
